Lesson 6: Compulsory Blog Entry
2. The casino being built in Singapore is supposed to be a money-maker and job creator. However, many people have spoken against it. Talk to a parent or adult and get their view on the casino. Listen to the NPR and YouTube offerings and choose one that substantiates your viewpoint and include a quote from it as well. Your blog entry has to be at least 200 words and you must either support the casino or condemn its construction and ultimately the hardships it will cause in Singapore.
Both my father and I support the building of the casino in Singapore.
Here is my father's take on the casino: "Singapore's economy has aciheved a level where we need to transform our revenue sources to a more flexible scheme. The establishment of IR will attract millions of tourists t Singapore which dictates an approximate billions of income. This will certainly boost up the GDP substantially and will create thousands of jobs. In addition, the IR will position Singapore as an international hub to host mega events and exhibitions. Of course, the associated social problems due to the casino have to be carefully and patientally addressed. All necessary and appropiate counselling and professional services have to be provided. All in all, the presence of tha casino though may come with social problems, but long term-wise, it is viable to stimulate the econmonic's growth of Singapore. Also, we must balance the social impacts and economy."
At this point of time of the economic downturn, a scheme is needed to rake in money for the country. Ths qoute, "There is an assumption out there that casinos are basically recession-proof." I feel that this sentence explains that casinos, despite several social problems like gambling addiction, are still a brilliant plan not only for the government to earn loads of money, but to supply jobs for the people. Overall, building casinos in Singapore is beneficial for our country.
