This Would Not Suffice!
It is two months and 5 days away from the nationals. The whole judo team is gearing up for the nationals. All the hard work for the nationals. What other way to gain experience than to experience a competition itself? So, today, our coach organised a competition for all his students in Hwa Chong Institution's dojo. Yes, you read it, our very own school's dojo(if you are from HCI that is. :D). In a way it is quite an honour to be able to hold competitions in our dojo. But anyway, his competition was greeted warmly with over 100 people registering for it. The Secondary 2s, or should I say, the C Boys, were signed up by default but of course we would pull out for any reasons. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to showcase our "talents" after 1 year of hard work(*cough cough*) and gaining more experience before the nationals. Killing two birds in one stone eh? Let's get back to the day of the competition. I just so happened to injure my wrist and get caught with a bad bad flu days before the competition. I was in a dilemma. Should I still take part in this competition? I came to the decision of trying for one bout. After weighing in, we all changed into our gi and started warming up. Some stretching and it was time for the competition to commence. My first opponent was somebody from Temasek Polytechnic. He was supposedly overweight and seemed so much fitter than me! Could I match up to him physically, especially with my handicap? I was worried. I tried to give it my all. But throughout the match, my wrist was hurting. I was weak and I could not enter a good throw. "Come on! Don't think about your wrist!" I kept thinking to myself but to no avail. Plus, my flu was getting to me. I panicked. My opponent spotted the chance. He entered. He threw. I fell flat on my back. I lost. I was sad yet annoyed. This was not my best performance! "Ben, you're in repecharge!" A ray of hope! At least I could still compete for the bronze medal. People advised me to forfeit in fear of worsening my injury. But you see, I am not one who gives up that easily. Just one more fight and the bronze medal is mine. I could win, right? Yes, I did win. It was not a full score, but at least I won. This victory, however, came with a price. Not only had I aggravated my injury, my flu got worse too! Oh man... Anyway, I have got to train alot harder if I wanted to win the C Boys division for nationals! I would not be satisfied with the results of today's competitions! This would not suffice!
