Reflection on Starting, Mantaining and Writing a blog Since I was a Primary school student, I have wanted to start a blog as most of my friends had blogs. However, I have not accomplished it as I was always too lazy to till now when I am required to start and mantain a blog. Overall, I feel that starting a blog is certainly an interesting and unique way to teach English. Instead of writing essays that students dread, blogging can allow students to voice out their thoughts and opinions about pieces of writings and assignments. This also is a particularly good platform to improve our writing skills as I strongly believe that the skill of writing cannot be nurtured within one day of practice but improved constantly throught daily practices. Blogging is user-friendly(altought I get confused at times) and enables us to post easily. We can even decorate our blogs and put up pictures together with the post. I do not seem to have any dislikes about blogging just that the only complain I have is the lack of time I have to post due to the extra-curricular activities I have in school. Furthermore, we have to abide to the RBP(Responsible Blogging Policies) while blogging, making it harder for us to choose of choice of words. I feel that the electronic bookshelf is a fantastic idea. This is because I can share the books i have read with others and let them know more about myself and my reading habits. Thus, they can comment on my readings and I would know if my reading habits are good or bad. Unfortunately, the number of books I have read are too many for me to post them all up on the electronic bookshelf. To conclude with, I feel that the school has made a good choice on letting students start a blog as I believe that this will help improve our English standards after blogging. I hope that this would be a fruitful and meaningful experience for us. I am currently reading The Lord of The Rings:Return of the King. http://weread.com/profile/Chong/F7D33947-327C-4B5B-8535-DF84EB3B9468?con_sandbox=booksiread&container_type=booksiread Comment | 1 Comments Sunday, March 1, 2009 @ 6:07 AM
Narrative Writing And Graphics-My Connection Both narratives and graphics are means of conveying ideas to the reader. A graphic novel uses pictures and illustrations to portray a story without any words included. The reader would then have an idea of the story and have a better understanding of the full picture. A narrative writing is of course, a writing which narrates a sequence of fictional or non-fictional events. The difference between both of them, obviously is that graphic novels contain solely pictures while a narrative contain words. Furthermore, a graphic novel can be interpreted in different ways as the saying goes, "A picture depicts a thousand words." However, I personally feel a narrative and graphics are somewhat interlinked. A narrative is a fundemental platform an author will write to tell a story to someone, allowing the reader to identify the plot and main idea of the story. Graphic novels, too, enables readers to identify it, only that it depicts it story in pictures that helps the reader to visualise the scene at any point of the story better and makes the story lively. My top three learning preferences are: 1. Interpersonal (People smart) 2. Naturalistic (Nature smart) 3. Kinaesthetic (Body smart)/ Visual (Picture smart)/ Logical (Number smart) Comment | 1 Comments @ 1:39 AM
My reading habits When I was still a young child, my mother inculcated the habit of reading into me by purchasing story books for me. I particularly enjoyed reading short stories with big and colourful illustrations to enable the reader to have a vivid imagination in their mind while reading the story. Books such as books from AdventureBox is a good example. However, as I grew up to an adolescent, I learnt to vary my choice of books like fantasies, adventures and some classic novels including Bridge to Terabithia and Philip Pullman's trilogy of "His Dark Material", mostly award-winners. I also read Science magazines like Talking Science and DiscoveryBox in primary school. I am enthralled into fantasies and adventures as they can capture the reader's attention with the interesting plot. I can also admire the brilliant choice of words the author uses in award-winning books and learn to be like them. For now, with a hectic schedule in Hwa Chong, I have definitely lesser time to read as compared to primary school. But of course, I'll seize the opportunity to read whenever I have leisure time to spare and get my sense of satisfaction through reading. Want to find out more about the books I read?
