It's Just Us
 The term tests are over! It has been such, and I mean such a hectic week. Accompanied with my exhausting trainings, I was almost tearing my hair out! Sleeping past One o'clock everday, the fatigue was unbearable. How did I fare?
Mathematics - B3
Geography - A1
Chemistry - A1
2 A grades and 1 B grade so far, why am I still not satisfied?
Human nature, probably.
The dissatisfaction even if we accomplish something. The need for more.
For instance, I receive a bicycle as a present. Soon, I decide that a bicycle would not suffice. So I decide to buy a car, an economical one. And later I decide that this car would not do at all, so I set out to purchase luxurious cars.
This unbearable feeling to achieve more. More than what we already have. It definitely serves as a motivation to strive to greater heights. For my case, I will work harder to attain better results. But on a larger context, it can lead to greed. And greed can lead to one's downfall. If I was desperate for Ferraris or Porshes, what would I resort to?
However, we are made this way. There's no way to avoid it. Hence, we must always remind of ourselves that self-improvement is good, but desire for too much improvement is not.

To Kill A Mockingbird - Is Maycomb a good place to live in?
Question: Is Maycomb a good place to live in?
Is Maycomb corrupted? (focus on two main themes : prejudice and courage)
 
Since my top two learning styles are naturalistic and interpersonal, here are my responses:
Naturalist
Do a research on the natural habitat of mockingbird. In your research, include the flora and fauna you think exist in Maycomb and explain why the mockingbirds live in Maycomb.
The mockingbird was given its name because of its ability to mimic the calls of dozens of other bird species. Northern mockingbirds forage on the ground or in vegetation; they also fly down from a perch to capture food. They mainly eat insects, small frogs, lizards, berries and seeds. Their willingness to nest near houses, their loud and frequent songs, and their territorial defense often annoy people.
Mockingbirds frequent lawns and gardens and have a strong preference for certain trees such as maple, sweetgum, and sycamore. The live in open country. Also, they have a particular preference for high places, such as the topmost branches of trees. Mockingbirds are often found in urban and suburban areas, where they perch on telephone poles, streetlights, or high points on buildings. The northern mockingbird eats ants, beetles, grasshoppers, seeds and berries.
The mockingbird that Harper Lee refers metaphorically against Boo Radley and Tom Robinson to in To Kill a Mockingbird is the Northern mockingbird. It is portrayed as an innocent living creature and it was a 'sin to kill a mockingbird'.
I believe that Maycomb is a suburban county. It has much open areas as not many people live there. Most families have lawns in their front porch with an abundance of maple trees, hence allowing many mockingbirds to reside there. Insects and fruits are probably thriving in Maycomb, attracting many mockingbirds to live there.

Interpersonal
Conduct an interview with a friend(not from HCI) or family member. Find out their point of view on prejudice and discrimination. Either record the interview or write out the interview transcript.
A: Me
B: My eldest brother
A: Would you mind sharing your perspective about prejudice and discrimination with me?
B: Okay. I think prejudice is culminated by the ignorance of human beings. The shallowness of these individuals have caused societal uproars and worn down social fabric. although this is part and parcel of everyday life, there are apparent detriments; i.e. racial riots, caused by blatent prejudice and warped discrimination should not be taken lightly by governments in whatever social contexts.
A: Have you come across any cases of discrimination?
B: Yes I have encountered gender discrimination.
A: Could you elaborate?
B: There has been a paradigm shift in society as it gears itself towards gender equality. However, this paradigm shift might have shifted a little too much into the females favour. As I was told blatantly by job agencies that companies preferred females for their temporary assignments. while this might have caused a little displeasure within me, it allowed me to experience what it feels like to be discriminated against and this has really broadened my horizon.
A: What do you think are the dire consequences of prejudice and discrimination?
B: It has a very fundamental difference against the basic premises of any meritocratic society; compromising its efficiency. Meritocratic systems are what most countries are based on as it has often been proven more competent than any other.
A: Very difficult words indeed. Well thank you for your time!
B: Okay. I would like to sleep now.

IT Learning Week - Learning Style
Mr Spelmer had given us a similar personality last year as well, and here are the results:
1) Interpersonal
2) Naturalistic
3) Visual/Kinaesthetic/Logical
And my results for this year's are:
1) Interpersonal
2) Naturalistic
3) Kinaesthetic
Pretty consistent, I must say? Oh well, I was actually pretty surprised by the similarities in the results. But, does it mean also mean that I have not grown over the year?
Once again, the 'interpersonal' segment has been the highest. I must say, I like working in groups. Although nerve-racking at times, especially with conflicting opinions, it is comforting to be able to share our different views and answers and to be able to solve a problem as a whole.
As for the 'naturalistic' segment, I believe that not many in the class has it in their top three preferred learning styles. As always, I detest pollution and enjoy Mother Nature and her creations. The earth is sick, WE MUST DO SOMETHING!
I have grown more kinaesthetic over the year. How so?
Judo, of course.
An EP3 that requires not only strength, but excellent body coordination and reflexes. After one year of exhausting trainings, surely I have grown more 'body smart'!
