Metaphorical Poem on Household Item
She arrived at my doorstep, Fully clad in plastic. Floating into the living room, She settled down for years to come. The soft leather skin, Those short stout metal legs, She glowed with exotic beauty. Drawn into her warm presence, I glided towards her. Slumping onto her lap, I rested on her arm. And I drifted into a deep slumber.

Reflections on Home Learning
Overall, this home learning has been a new and interesting experience for me. i) I had put in more hours in the E-learning than regular days of school work. ii) I would usually complete the assignments in more than an hour as the topics we are learning are new and I want to make sure I have an idea of what I am learning. iii) Personally, I do not dislike any of the assignments as all are fun to do. I particularly liked the assignments about poetry, however. iiii) My suggestions to make E-Learning better is to organise the websites. During the E-Learning week, teachers were posting assignments on different websites, totally mind-boggling. Thus, I had to check out where the assignments were to be posted the previous night so as not to waste too much time the following day. I really had to discipline myself during the E-Learning week as staring at the monitor, really tempted me to play computer games. Time management was also really crucial for me as my trainings in the middle of the afternoon was so time consuming that it was really difficult for me to complete my assignments on time. Throughout the days of the E-Learning week, it soon turned a little dreary due to the hours spent on the computer but to me, it was a fresh experience that I would not mind if it occurred again.

Lesson 6: Compulsory Blog Entry
2. The casino being built in Singapore is supposed to be a money-maker and job creator. However, many people have spoken against it. Talk to a parent or adult and get their view on the casino. Listen to the NPR and YouTube offerings and choose one that substantiates your viewpoint and include a quote from it as well. Your blog entry has to be at least 200 words and you must either support the casino or condemn its construction and ultimately the hardships it will cause in Singapore.
Both my father and I support the building of the casino in Singapore.
Here is my father's take on the casino: "Singapore's economy has aciheved a level where we need to transform our revenue sources to a more flexible scheme. The establishment of IR will attract millions of tourists t Singapore which dictates an approximate billions of income. This will certainly boost up the GDP substantially and will create thousands of jobs. In addition, the IR will position Singapore as an international hub to host mega events and exhibitions. Of course, the associated social problems due to the casino have to be carefully and patientally addressed. All necessary and appropiate counselling and professional services have to be provided. All in all, the presence of tha casino though may come with social problems, but long term-wise, it is viable to stimulate the econmonic's growth of Singapore. Also, we must balance the social impacts and economy."
At this point of time of the economic downturn, a scheme is needed to rake in money for the country. Ths qoute, "There is an assumption out there that casinos are basically recession-proof." I feel that this sentence explains that casinos, despite several social problems like gambling addiction, are still a brilliant plan not only for the government to earn loads of money, but to supply jobs for the people. Overall, building casinos in Singapore is beneficial for our country.

Emergency IT Lesson 5: Gambling
- Show how the poem Tom Beatty could be compared to The Rocking Horse Winner. In studying the poem, note that the opera house is really life and when He makes the rules it’s either the Lord or perhaps the devil. Beatty suggests that everyone has about 70 years, but Paul in The Rocking Horse Winner had much less time. Explain what Paul’s weakness was, how the cards were stacked against him and do you think Paul was lucky not to live to be an old man fumbling the cards, leaden-eyed and whining about his losses?
Paul's weakness really was his inabilty to to think on a long run. Paul did not have any other intentions when he entered the world of gambling but to help his parents earn money. He wanted to help people in need, but instead, he could not even help himself up. Soon, he was obssessed in horseracing.
"He makes the percentage hard to conquer; He stacks the cards to catch your weakness"
As stated by Tom Beatty, the odds of gambling are always against you. And in The Rocking Horse Winner, the odds were against Paul to get his life back on course.
In a sense, Paul was lucky not to have lived to a ripe age. Imagine if he were to live to seventy years old without recognising what a mess his life had become. Even if he had earned himself a fortune, his desperation throughout the years wouldll have caused him his friends, his family, and a life filled with misery. A life without happiness, who would want that?
- In The Green Clothes, green is the color of envy, greed and money! This poem is thematically similar to Paper. Even though the poem takes place at a roulette wheel the gamblers from the short story and the poem have similar experiences. Explain how tips, dry lips, and all that was spent in vain could apply to the short story Paper.
The colourful tips, dry lips and all spent in vain are closely related to Paper. Everything that Tay Soon and Yee Lian had placed on the line went down the drain. Investing in shares in a way, are similar to gambling. Gambling - obsessed in earning your money back. Investing in shares - obsessed when shares soar. Investing in shares causes greediness, no doubt about it. When the shares dipped, Tay Soon and Yee Lian were still not convinced to sell their debts, despite being in debt. They, unfortunely, too have not recognised their limits. In the end, Tay Soon passed away. They not only lost money, but another life, "And all that was spent in vain."
3. Ah Boh in Lottery has about one dollar, there’s a “blind man,” the number 13 and ultimately zero dollars to bet. These last examples are taken from One-Dollar Gambler. Show how they also relate to Ah Boh.
One-Dollar Gambler emphasises all the other meaningful things a dollar can achieve rather then be spent away from gambling. The "blind man" in the poem refers to Ah Boh, who spent her life-time savings on gambling, always convincing herself that a stroke of luck would come by. However, Lady Luck was not on her side. In relation to the poem, Ah Boh's savings were "reduced to a complete zero", together with her neglected dead mother and a neglected life.
P.S I apologise for the late post, I had training in the afternoon and could not finish it on time.

IT Lesson - Gambling

Lottery
Ah Boh's obsession with gambling made her do all means to try to win money. She believed that dreams were interlinked with numbers. To her, anything related to numbers represented the winning numbers of the lottery. Be it a cat's mass,to an infant pasted with papers, to the license plate of a car involved in an accident. She also believed that by praying to her deceased husband and household gods, they would grant her her wish of winning a fortune. This superstitous measures, did not only cost her her hard-earned savings and a contented life, but also took away her mother's life.
The Rocking Horse Winner
I feel that ultimately, Paul was responsible for his own death. His winning streak caused him to be addicted to horserace betting as he strongly believed he was lucky. Soon, this addiction grew into obsession. He grew more confident in his luck and started betting more money. However, his luck turned for the worst and he started losing. He was on the verge of a mental breakdown. He was putting himself under so much pressure, he eventually went into a coma and passed away. Although his uncle and mother should have restricted him, I feel that they could not have done anything to stop him.
